in my humble opinion breakfast is one of the best meals of the day. Along with lunch and dinner of course. There is a saying; eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a pauper. Well my constant battle with my weight is because I breakfast like a King and then continue to eat like a King for the rest of the day. Throw in a cake mid afternoon, (why wouldn’t you?) and you’ll understand why when I’m not working I’m often at the gym!

There are some amazing breakfasts to be had in Jersey, and most weekends I would treat myself to breakfast at one of my favourite cafes. If you are travelling to Jersey and are in need of a good breakfast I can heartily recommend one of the cafes below.

Before I tell you what they are, let me stress these are my personal favourites. I’m not getting any payment for recommending these, in fact the owners will not probably even know, unless they are reading this blog. Also you will notice that all three cafes are in the west of the island. When I lived in in Jersey, which is only 9 miles by 5 miles, I discovered distance is relative. Now I live in Dorset, I don’t think twice about getting in the car and driving 15 miles to a favourite cafe, whilst driving to the other side of the island (I lived in the west) seemed too much of a hassle for breakfast!

Sands

Sands opened just after we moved to Jersey and is situated pretty much at the mid point of St Ouens Bay, halfway down what is known in Jersey as 5 Mile Road (which is only 3.5 miles long). They do a wide range of breakfasts from Banana Pancakes to Smoothies and my personal favourite the Full English, which had some of the best black pudding I’ve ever eaten. In the summer it was great to sit outside at one of the long trestle tables and look out to sea. St Ouens Bay is probably one of the quietest beaches in Jersey, and after a good breakfast you can walk it off by taking a walk along the beach either towards L’Etacq or down to La Pulente.

Colleens

Colleens is situated at Greve De Lecq, looking out over a crescent of golden sand. If it sounds familiar Greve De Lecq was where I first thought of The Gull Bay Mysteries, although unlike Gull Bay which has a a number of independent shops, granite stone cottages, a bustling harbour and a pub at the quay, Greve De Leque only has a couple of cafes and a hotel perched on the headland.

Uno Cafe

Uno Cafe is in St Aubin, opposite the Town Hall. St Aubin is in the south west of the island, if you remember Bergerac which was a detective programme in the eighties it is where Diamante Lil’s bar was situated and a lot of the filming was based around St Aubin. After breakfast you can browse the shops of St Aubin, or between May and September take the little road train that travels back and forth between St Aubin and St Helier, the capital of Jersey.
